My second time at this hotel, and my second TripAdvisor review. As with my first stay here (a year ago) staff at every level were courteous and accommodating. Also as with my last review, bartenders Richard and Tim (and new to me bartender Chrissy) deserve special recognition . I was pleasantly shocked when Tim said upon my arrival “your hair is shorter, I almost didn’t recognize you.” That is a sign of a true hospitality professional and all three delivered an exceptional level of service. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough if you are visiting Chicago.

The real "pro" of this hotel is the location. You can't beat the River North area of Chicago and this property offers a good value for the price point. The rooms are fairly large compared to other downtown hotels. I enjoy the AC chain, however this is clearly an old property that was remodeled as opposed to most other AC's that are new builds. While it was clean, the building itself is showing its age (as well as some of the furnishings, baseboards, carpets, etc). This a nice hotel that "gets the job done" but I wouldn't stay here for a special occasion. Great service from everyone at the front desk. The breakfast/bar area is a bit of an awkward set-up and wasn't all that enjoyable to spend time in. Great fitness center and pool - a rarity for city center locations at this price point.

I had the worst stay of my life at a Marriott hotel. No one ever informed me that there was a water leak in the hotel structure. On our last day in Chicago (3/28), at around 10:15am the hotel simply shut the hot water off, while one of my children was in the shower. When I called the front desk they were “surprised” that none of them had informed me, neither during check in nor during my stay that they had a water maintenance scheduled for that day, which was supposed to start at 11am. The front desk lady that got my call was borderline laughing at the situation, maybe due to nervousness. Despite, I felt offended. When I said my kid was halfway through his shower when the water stopped flowing, they offered to send us room temperature water bottles and rags for my kid to finish the shower. Humiliating. In summary they ruined my family’s last day in the city, everybody got nervous, we couldn’t properly shower before check out, skipped the plans for the day and instead drove home early. I left my phone number as per front desk request (I’m a Bonvoy member for years, they have my contact info) for the manager to contact me, which never happened. They also said they would return the points used to book my stay, which hasn’t happened yet as well. Lastly, I never received the opportunity to write a review in the Marriott website/app, possibly because they know their service was the worst it could possibly be and a post-stay survey was never sent to me.

Our visit was cursed. 1st night our deadbolt broke & we were locked in our room for hour & 1/2. (Bldg Engineer blamed/lectured me) 2nd day: Only 3 bath towels in room. 2 hanging on bar & 1 folded on rolling cart under vanity. Someone had stuffed a bloody washcloth under that folded towel. Disgusting. Took a while to get clean replacements. 3rd day woken @5am by loud party next door. Security had to knock 3 times to be heard, to ask them to quiet down. The Night Manager was wonderful. He listened to me and took care of us. He truly cared that his guests be happy and enjoy their stay. Because of Jerry, we will return.

Good hotel but not for extended stay

This hotel has some strong points and some weak points. Pluses: + The location is fantastic. A few blocks away from the Navy pier, directly over top a Trader Joe's, and a relatively easy walk to metro subway lines. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance. A safe friendly neighborhood for tourists or people on business. + There's a heated indoor pool. It's not a super warm indoor pool, but it's a good temperature after leaving the gym. + A very nice workout room. Plenty of equipment, and most of it seems to be working well. + Friendly and helpful desk staff. More than happy to split up my 6-night stay on to two different credit cards. + Free bottled water replaced daily during housekeeping. + Housekeeping every night of the week. And you don't have to request housekeeping, it's just part of the deal. Major minuses: + Not a good extended stay hotel. No on-site laundry facilities, but they're willing to charge you $10 to clean a pair of socks. + Although I did not park a car, parking is full-blown extortion prices. I overheard another guest who had to leave their car in the garage for an extra hour or so on checkout day, and the front desk informed them they would be charged by the hour. + At least half of the guest rooms face inward to a empty courtyard, for want of a better word. I was here for six nights. This would have been a good hotel for two nights. I repeat it is not a good extended stay hotel.
